An angling boss in the Lothians has appealed to fishermen to back the organisation.

A number of committee members have left the Musselburgh and District Angling Association this year.

And chairman Chris Halliday needs help in his bid to get a stretch of the River Esk running properly as a fishery.

He plans to hold a general meeting this month.

And he said: “Some of you may be aware, and have rightly pointed out, that there is a lack of committee presence on the river.

“We are aware of this issue ourselves, but it’s not something we can solve overnight.

“We have lost a few committee members since the start of the year and haven’t managed to find replacements as yet.

“It is time to be realistic and admit that it is probably too much for a just few of us to keep on top of.

“What we need are like-minded people who are willing to muck in and get the river running as the fishery that we all want.

“With this in mind I am aiming to call a general meeting and I would appreciate anyone who feels like they want to get involved, to attend the meeting.

“There you can raise your concerns and, hopefully, we get some bodies on board to help us with our aims.

“If this is something you feel you would want to be involved with please voice your interest.”
