Tomorrow afternoon all roads lead to Wester Hailes where it is World Disco Soup Day.
In fact it is World Disco Soup Day across Scotland hosted by the Scottish Slow Food Youth Network. Chef Fi Donaldson from social enterprise Prep Table will lead the cooking and everyone can get involved with making a big salad!
In Wester Hailes all the events will take place at Westside Plaza where they will make soup for around 100 people. The vegetables will be provided by Edinburgh Food Share, a volunteer-led, community-based food waste reduction project who will gather the vegetables from fields nearby where they might otherwise go to waste. There will be around 50 loaves of bread which will be provided by Edinburgh bakeries rather than them going to waste.
This does not mean the food will be anything less than delicious however! The Tasting Change team who are doing such good work around food at the Wester Hailes Health Agency will be there to explain their projects.
One of these is the Garden Kitchen which runs every second Wednesday at The Health Agency between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. This project operates a Pay It Forward scheme so that locals and volunteers can eat for free when others pay for meals. There will also be pop up versions of the Garden Kitchen over the summer at a variety of venues.
As well as good food there will be music from Clovenstone Primary School’s Glee club who will be there to perform.
