John McGinn is looking forward to the chance of making up some ground on second-place Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership at Easter Road this afternoon and strengthen the club’s chances of European football next season.
Hibs have won their last two games against Motherwell at home and Rangers at Ibrox which leaves them in fourth place.
Aberdeen however are likely to provide stiffer opposition and won the last time the pair met in Leith.
Considering that Hibs were in the Championship last season, McGinn believes that their form to date has been impressive.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Scotland international said: “I think over the course of the season we’ve proven that we can go and compete with the best teams in the league and Saturday will be no different.
“We hope to put a stamp on Aberdeen and prove that Easter Road is not an easy place to come and take points, and hopefully try and close the gap on them.”
“As a Hibs player you get really excited to go and play at Easter Road, especially at a sell-out crowd, and I feel as if in the big games this season I’ve come up with some goals so hopefully I can keep more of them coming for Easter Road.
“I think a lot of them have been away from home, so it’s up to myself and the other boys in the team to stand up and be counted and make sure that the 20,000 who are coming go home happy.
“I think for a newly promoted side that over the course of the season we’ve really impressed.
“I think if you strip everything back we’ve been unfortunate in a lot of games as well so we’re really determined to first and foremost get that top six spot and then from there try and build on that.
“If we can get Hibs into European football again then it would be massive for everyone involved.
“For three years on the trot, first year to win the cup, then to get promotion and hopefully to try and get European football it would be a special spell for the club and one that everyone’s been delighted to be involved in.”
