The Brunton has launched its January to April season offering a line-up of theatre, music, dance and film.
Captivate Theatre bring two musicals, Les Misérables: School Edition and Sweeney Todd and multi-award winning Scottish theatre companies Grid Iron and Stellar Quines bring their original musical Bingo!
Audiences will be treated to Scottish traditional music from the The Tannahill Weavers 50th Anniversary UK Tour and revisit the glories of popular dance music from the 1920s and 1930s with Pasadena Roof Orchestra: Puttin’ On The Ritz.
The Brunton will also host a range of tribute acts including The Counterfeit Sixties, The Police Sting Show, Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise and The Johnny Cash Roadshow, the only show endorsed by the CASH family.
London Classic Theatre bring Noel Coward’s: Private Lives whilst comedy duo Andy Gray and Grant Stott are back with Double Feature, a play by Phil Differ which was so good at the Fringe last year.
Tortoise in a Nutshell in co-production with Teatre Katapult weave puppetry, movement and intricate design in Fisk.
Fans of a light-hearted nostalgia will enjoy Dad’s Army Radio Hour, where two actors play 25 characters in a staging of classic radio scripts based off the original TV series.
The National Theatre Live and Royal Opera House Live screenings include Julius Caesar and encores of Young Marx and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Performances from both The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet, include Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca, Verdi’s Macbeth and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
Midweek movies include Kenneth Branagh’s star-studded Murder On The Orient Express, Michael Gracey’s The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman and Steven Spielberg’s The Post.
The popular Lunchtime Classical Concert series, where audiences can enjoy lunch in the upstairs lounge followed by an hour of classical music in Venue 2, continues with Ryan Corbett, Accordion and Castalian Quartet.
The Afternoon Classical Concert is Inside the Classics with Susan Tomes: Haydn and Beethoven, where audiences can enjoy an hour and a half concert followed by High Tea in The Bistro. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra return to The Brunton with an evening performance of Appalachian Spring.
Room 2 Manoeuvre return to start this season’s dance programme with Breakin’ Rules, this year adding new energy with Circus from London based Simple Cypher and Contemporary Dance from Edinburgh’s All or Nothing.
The internationally acclaimed dance theatre company Barrowland Ballet will explore stories that have been told through time to different generations in a world of fairy tale imagery in Wolves and Rob Heaslip Dance will perform Freagra – A Blurred Expanse, a playful colourful performance suitable for all ages.
For younger audiences Eddie and the Slumber Sisters, a collaboration from The Brunton’s resident theatre company Catherine Wheels Theatre Company and National Theatre of Scotland, explores grieving through the eyes of a child with an interactive warm-hearted show filled with songs and humour.
Puppet Animation Festival 2018 will also be holding events around East Lothian including The Brunton.
Each April East Lothian Council’s Arts Service brings the Puppet Animation Festival to venues across East Lothian.
The festival is the UK’s largest performing arts event for children, with a fun and diverse programme for ages 0-12.
It includes puppet making and stop motion animation workshops, puppet theatre and animated films.
Scotland’s Craig Hill is back to bring laughter to The Brunton with his high octane show Someone’s Gonna Get Kilt and another great night of entertainment, full of stories and songs, will be brought by Jason Donovan & His Amazing Midlife Crisis.
