Margaret Grant has been volunteering with the Royal Voluntary Service for 46 years, and was recently invited to meet the charity’s President, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.

At a reception in Clarence House Margaret was celebrated as one of the charity’s Amazing People.

Other ambassadors such as Dame Patricia Rutledge, Felicity Kendal and Wayne Sleep were also at the reception.

Margaret was inspired to become a volunteer after spending a bit of time at hospital when her son was ill. She is now the Manager of the Royal Voluntary Service tea bar at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Margaret said: “It was a fantastic day. I chatted to lots of people; everyone was asking about the long service medals I was wearing and why it had two bars, I had to explain that each bar represented 12 years’ service with Royal Voluntary Service. I would recommend volunteering to anyone, the chance to work with a lovely team of people in a friendly atmosphere and know that you are doing something that supports not only the tea bar customers but my other team members too gives me a great personal sense of satisfaction. An added bonus is there are many opportunities to make friends with fellow volunteers and give encouragement.”

The charity is launching a drive to recruit more volunteers in the next few months.
