Paddy Gallagher aims to end Gary Murray’s title dream when they clash at Meadowbank on Friday in one of the feature bouts.

The Belfast puncher defends his Celtic welterweight title and is in no mood to give up the coveted belt.

Murray, however, turned professional three years ago with the ambition to win titles and the Scots fighter nicknamed The Mint gets his chance on the Capital Collision bill.

The 30-year-old defends his 12-fight winning run on the line against highly-rated Irishman Gallagher who is not bothered by the prospect of facing a hostile crowd.

Gallagher travelled to the Ice Arena, Cardiff, to face Tony Dixon and he took the belt home after a sensational first round win over previously undefeated Welshman.

Coatbridge-based Murray, meanwhile, has steadily worked his way up the rankings.
This is his chance and he has taken two months off work to prepare for the clash.

Murray beat Hungarian fighter Gergo Vari on points at Braehead in July in his last contest and the Scot said: “I’ve worked hard for this.

“I’ve taken time off work and I’m taking my opponent seriously but nothing is going to stop me winning that title.”

Gallagher is two years younger than the Scot and has three defeats in his 14-fight record, but seven of his 11 wins have been by knockout.

The Irishman admitted he knows very little about the ambitious Scot but he said: “I know he’s game, he’s tough and I know he’s very hungry for this title.

“It’s the first proper title shot he’s every had so I’m sure I’ll see the best of Gary Murray. I’m not over confident but I’m extremely confident.”

The headline bout features 6ft 7in, Inverness-born heavyweight Gary Cornish aiming to make history by becoming the first Scot to win the British heavyweight title.

The 30-year-old has knocked out 12 of his 24 opponents and he goes in against Norwich-based, 6ft 2in, 33-year-old Sam Sexton, who lost his Commonwealth title to Dereck Chisora.

And ambitious Edinburgh cruiserweight Stephen Simmons is determined to lift the IBF European East/West Europe title when he faces Corby-based Simon Barclay.
