The team behind Edinburgh Larder and the Craigmillar Community Cinema Group welcomed local residents to a Cinema Yurt Experience last week where they enjoyed an afternoon of locally produced food and film.

The event was facilitated by The EDI Group, who as part of the area’s regeneration are working with various community groups to develop meanwhile use of temporary greenspace.

The cinema yurt was organised and hosted by a group of community members who work closely with organisation, Connecting Craigmillar, which aims to encourage engagement in projects in the area.

The day of events was organised to create an opportunity for people to connect,
share stories, and discuss issues together as a community and was also supported by the Craigmillar Community Grows project, which offers people the chance to enhance their skill set and enjoy outdoor social activities.

Attendees tucked in to creations cooked by Edinburgh Larder’s social enterprise, Edinburgh Food Social, which recently raised £10,000 through a crowdfunding campaign to buy a food truck in efforts to enhance accessibility to local food. The initiative was created to work with communities and schools in Edinburgh to develop culinary skills.

Denise Havard, Community Development Manager at The EDI Group, said: “It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the experience of the cinema yurt and tucking in to the great food provided by Edinburgh Food Social. We are very much looking forward to seeing the meanwhile greenspace being used for other events and activities by the community.”
