Hearts have confirmed that talented winger Sam Nicholson, whose contract at Tynecastle expired at the end of last season, has left Gorgie to join Minnesota United in the USA’s MSL league.
Nicholson, 22, made his debut in Hearts first-team in August 2013 and has been an integral part of the club’s rise from the Ladbrokes Championship to the top six in the Ladbrokes Premiership. He made 127 appearances in maroon, scoring 16 goals and also played for the Scotland Under-21 side.
Meanwhile, Hearts Head Coach Ian Cathro was delighted with his side’s performance in their 4-1 victory over Linfield in Belfast on Saturday. Celtic’s Uefa Champions League opponents were swept aside by the Jambos, despite taking the lead in the first half.
16-year-old Harry Cochrane caught the eye for the Gorgie boys with the youngster netting Hearts equaliser. However, Cathro is keen for fans and the player himself not to get carried away because of one decent performance in a pre-season friendly.
“Harry is talented” said the Gorgie gaffer, “and it’s important that we see young players come through. However, we always want to be calm with these things. Harry is a talent, absolutely, and I’m not scared by the fact he’s only 16 years of age. But we want to nurture his talent and it’s important we get the right balance”
Hearts entertain English FA Premiership newcomers Newcastle United in another pre-season friendly on Friday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.
