Craft beer and ale is now the top tipple of choice in Scotland, according to a survey.

Voters were in favour of craft beer and ales over gin, whisky or soft drinks
with a majority of 54 per cent.

The survey, conducted on behalf of Nicholson’s Pubs, also discovered that people still chose to opt for more traditional British dishes.

Fish and chips won the vote with 48 per cent choosing this classic dish over current health-led trends such as a quinoa salad which only garnered three per cent.

Reasons for visiting the pub have shifted with 61 per cent of respondents from Scotland stating the top reason they would pop into a British pub is for free wi-fi.

Will Prideaux, operations director of Nicholson’s Pubs comments; “It’s great to find out that the people in Scotland are still opting for great British dishes such as the traditional fish and chips and steak and ale pies.

“It is also interesting to see how pubs have adapted to digital trends and the discovery of just how much more popular craft beer and ales are in comparison to other drinks, was an interesting revelation.”
