There should be a fair amount of ‘standing to attention’ for the Hearts Legends team when they return to action on 5th March – for their opposition will be The British Army Over 35s!
The game, promoted at the Oriam Sports Performance Centre at Heriot-Watt University today, has been arranged to help raise funds for the Soldiers’ Charity. The Army team will feature players from across all Garrisons.
The Hearts Legends team, also all over 35, contains past heroes such as John Robertson, Jimmy Sandison – who both helped promote the game at today’s media event – Scott Severin and centre forwards Ian Ferguson and Scott Crabbe.
Hearts Legends manager Alan White told the official Hearts website:
“We expect the army lads to be really fit so our boys will have to do a bit more running than they are used too!
“Everyone knows the significance of our relationship with the army and we are delighted have secured this game for the Legends.
“The Soldiers’ Charity do a fantastic job and we encourage as many fans as possible to come along and cheer on both sides in aid of a fantastic cause.”
The Soldiers’ Charity has provided a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army and their immediate families since 1944.
The match, which is sure to attract a large attendance, takes place at 4.00pm at the Oriam Performance Centre at Riccarton on Sunday 5th March. There will be a bucket collection on the day.
