Two men, both aged 24, have been arrested and charged in connection with bogus workman activity which happened on Monday in Ochiltree Crescent, Mid Calder.
The men will appear at Livingston Sheriff Court today.
Officers believe there may have been additional bogus workman activity in the area and are appealing for anyone who may have been affected to come forward.
Detective Constable Lynn Myles of Livingston CID said, “Bogus callers pretend to be someone they’re not, such as workmen, meter readers, charity collectors and even police officers.
“Rogue traders work by trying to pressurise householders into buying a product or service that they don’t actually need. They often look to target the most vulnerable in our society, particularly the elderly.
“They can trick their way into homes under a false pretences with the intention of stealing cash and belongings, whilst bogus workmen will seek payment for shoddy work, or indeed money up front for work that is never carried out.
“Be suspicious of anyone cold calling at your door offering to do work, or to fix a problem you have no prior knowledge of and never pay for goods or services to strangers arriving at your door.
“By providing advice and raising awareness of these incidents we aim to strengthen our communities against doorstep crime.”
