Hibs won the Contribution to Sport Award for 2016 at the Forth Awards in recognition of winning the William Hill Scottish Cup Final on 21 May 2016, bringing to an end the much documented 114 year wait.

Club captain David Gray, Liam Fontaine and Paul Hanlon were at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Wednesday afternoon to collect the award from Hibs’ fan Grant Stott.

Speaking to Hibs TV afterwards, Fontaine said: “It felt great getting the award today. It is a great achievement for the club and a great honour for me, David and Paul to have collected it on behalf of Hibernian. We were lucky enough to be in the squad hat brought the trophy home.

“It was some experience walking out on stage at the Usher Hall and it was good to chat to Grant and receive the award.

“The achievement is massive and it should be recognised. Winning the Scottish Cup again after so long is huge for everyone at the club.

“You could see that the day after the cup final at the parade how much it meant.

“I’ve seen the trophy popping up in every neck of Edinburgh there is on twitter. It’s getting a lot of exposure and it’s being seen by a lot of people which is the reason behind the Persevere Tour.

“If you have any aspirations to achieve anything in sport seeing the cup could trigger that in people.”
