Ken MacIntosh’s MSP side were frozen out by the on-fire Forth One All Stars at a bitterly cold Ainslie Park Stadium on Wednesday night’s challenge match in aid of the station’s Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ appeal.
Forth One’s Player / Manager Mark ‘Mourinho’ Martin, who presents the Home Run show, made it 17 wins out of 21 at the helm and it was achieved in convincing fashion over the Holyrood hopefuls.
Presiding Officer MacIntosh fielded Holyrood heavyweights Neil Bibby, Mark Griffin, Tavish Scott – who sported some day-glo headwear – and local MSP Ben MacPherson amongst others however the first half wasn’t to be music to his ears as the DJ infused Forth side raced to a 3-0 lead at the interval.
Dalkeith Thistle hitman Paul Tansey was in fine form for Forth, including netting a brace which earned him the opponents Man of the Match award. Tansey wasn’t the only man seeing double, with Liam Rogers of Swift Taxis fame and former ‘Any Dream Will Do’ frontman Keith Jack both grabbing two goals each in the 9-1 rout.
The scoring didn’t stop there as Political Editor and Captain Alan Smith added to the total with a fine solo effort whilst Comedian Gareth Waugh and finally David Bailey found the back of the net to offer a ten goal feast for those who braved the elements.
There was a crumb of comfort for the battle weary Parliamentary posse, with Lib Dem Researcher James Parry springing the offside trap (generous shout by the Ref) to slide home to deny the All Stars stopper a clean sheet. Despite the result, it was Parry’s political stablemate Liam McArthur who earned the plaudits with some fine saves – and his spell outfield – that earned him his side’s Man of the Match gong.
Post-match, both sides joined forces in their efforts to contribute towards the Mission Christmas appeal. You can find out more here
