The council has a consultation running at the moment on QuietRoutes. If you have not heard of them before (yes there is a Fringe joke in there somewhere….) these are the local walking and cycling routes around the city. They have been designed for all abilities and provide a real alternative to the main roads and streets when getting around the Capital.
The consultation which runs till 4 September is looking for feedback specifically on proposed alterations to parts of QuietRoute 20 (Craigleith, Leith and Restalrig) and QuietRoute 61 (The Rosslyn Chapel Way).
The proposals include a planned pedestrian and cycle crossing on Gilmerton Road, protected cycleways on Easter Road between Brunswick Road and Bothwell Street and cycle and pedestrian shared use pavements for example on Hay Avenue.
Transport Convener Councillor Lesley Hinds said: “We’re committed to making it as easy as possible to travel by bike or on foot in the city and we want residents to help us improve our network of QuietRoutes through this consultation exercise.
“The Council needs to understand and consider all the needs and views put forward regarding the re-design of the streets. We’ll use the comments and feedback to develop optimum designs that improve the routes for walking and cycling.”
Details of the consultations (Cycling and Walking improvements on McDonald Roadand Cycling and Walking improvements between Niddrie, Moredun and Gilmerton) are available on the Council’s Consultation Hub.
The consultations close on Sunday 4 September 2016.
