When life is unravelling at a rate beyond belief what would you do to take control? For stand-up comedian Damian, the answer was to throw caution to the wind and put his faith in the hands of the Great British Public
Since March 24th, Damian has travelled penniless from Lands End to
Edinburgh on a 120 gig comedy tour to raise money for the bad housing and
homelessness charity, Shelter
His show Knock Knock is not the story of the fundraising, but is the story behind why he did it. A year ago Damian lost his job, broke up with his fiancé and lost his flat all within the space of just a few months. Luckily, he had the safety net of parents who were able to support him and give him a place to stay. This is not the case for many.
Knock Knock is about how life can change overnight, it may be a series of unrelated events but the result can leave you in a dangerous position. It’s about trust and the way people change and life can easily make you lose track of who you really are.
Through his tour Damian has so far raised over £17,000 for the homelessness and housing charity, Shelter. He hasn’t used any money or public transport, and has been given shelter, food and lifts all the way up to the country on his way to Edinburgh. He’s been telling
jokes to anyone anywhere, from the Nags Head to Granny’s front room, in return for the basic necessities so many people have to do without every day.
