Councillor Alex Lunn represents the Craigentinny and Duddingston Ward. He writes:
“Just last week the Sheep Heid Inn in my ward in Craigentinny and Duddingston received a visit from Her Majesty The Queen on her way home from the races at Musselburgh Racecourse it appears.
“The Sheep Heid is very popular. It’s popular with tourists and locals alike.
“At the moment there is a feeling of uncertainty with the disastrous situation regarding our EU Membership that the Tory governments weakness has led us to. The Sheep Heid on the other hand is a fantastic symbol of stability.
“No wonder, when you consider that beverages have been sold from there in one form or another since 1360.
“74% of Edinburgh voted to remain in the EU. Scotland also voted overwhelmingly to remain. It’s my hope that we will stay in the EU as an independent nation.
“With our natural resources we will be a powerful player at the EU table. In the meantime Edinburgh will remain open for business. We have also seen recent planning approval for investment at St Andrew Square, India Buildings and King Stables Road to name but a few.
“With all of this development activity combined we are creating thousands of jobs for Edinburgh. A businessman from Tennessee said to me recently that Scotland is already a very attractive place to do business, but the decision of England and Wales to vote Leave was as only an American can put it “nuts”!
“Edinburgh must stay in the EU. It’s what its people demand.
“But as the Sheep Heid proves, Edinburgh is very dependable. Business will continue to invest here and create jobs for our highly educated and skillful population. Edinburgh and Scotland are assets in Europe.
“I’m glad that the First Minister is fighting our European corner while Scotland’s wishes are again ignored as easily by the new Westminster government as as it was last. If Europe has any interest in strategic planning it will listen to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and the majority of the Scottish people.
“Edinburgh and Scotland are good for Europe. Europe knows this already. Now they have to help us fight for it.”
