Dunbar Scifest 7

If you fancy a day out tomorrow then you could still get along to some of the events at the Dunbar Science Festival.

Jon Savage caught the mood earlier today when he visited and found three year-old Samuel Thomson getting to grips with a model eyeball as he tries to figure out what goes where in the human skull. There is more entertainment over the next 10 days.

Dunbar SciFest runs for 10 days with the first of two family Science Ceilidhs sponsored by EDF Energy. Pupils from Dunbar Primary School will showcase a new ceilidh dance developed to show how we can cut down the amount of stuff we throw away. The following night, Saturday 5 March, families will be invited to explore the theme of light and take part in the Dashing White Light Wave and the Fluorescent Fling.

George Kerevan MP said: “I am a great fan of Dunbar SciFest and amazed at the number and range of activities it provides. It is truly impressive to see how the whole town turns out, as organiser and audience, to celebrate scientific achievements and learn about new developments in science. I treasure the memory of the Magic Lantern light show at Barns Ness lighthouse last year, and am looking forward to this year’s even more ambitious Chain Reaction projection at Torness.”

Between 6.30pm and 10pm every evening, until Sunday 13 March everyone can enjoy the festival’s FREE Chain Reaction light show that will be projected in front of Torness Power Station.

Chain Reaction has been created for Dunbar SciFest 2016 and EDF Energy by Light Artist Malcolm Innes, working with Double Take Projections and Edinburgh Napier University students. This free light show includes a series of artistic interpretations that reveal the complex and unseen processes that generate steam energy which drives the electricity generators in Torness power station. Due to concerns over the potential distraction risk to A1 traffic, this show will not now be visible from the A1. Marshalled parking is accessed from the Skateraw Road just off the A1.
