Hibs’ longest serving player Lewis Stevenson refused to make excuses for the performance of the side in yesterday’s goalless draw with Livingston at a snow covered Tony Macaroni Arena.

Hibs went into the game knowing that a win would move them to within six points of league leaders Rangers who had dropped two points away to Alloa Athletic earlier in the day. In addition, third placed Falkirk drew 2-2 with Raith Rovers at home so the chance was also there to consolidate second place however it was not to be.

A draw was probably a fair result although Hibs dominated possession but the best chances fell to the Lions.

Speaking immediately after the game to Cliff Pike of Hibs TV he said: “Obviously a point is better than none, but we are disappointed. The conditions were actually alright, during the warm-up it was pretty bad, but when the game started it was alright.

“We’ve got no excuses, we didn’t perform today, not enough of us played well and the manager said that he hopes that is all of the bad performances out of the window and we can focus on the future.

“At the end of the day we were lucky to get a point. Livingston played well and fair play to them. I thought they were better in spells and had more clean cut chances that we did. when they attacked, they attacked in numbers and maybe that’s not something we are used to but we should have taken advantage of the space behind them but we just didn’t do that today.

“We never look at anyone else’s results, we just focus on our own game and if we can get a win that takes care of itself so I don’t think the other results affected how we played today.

“We have always said that the league is our number one priority and we wanted to get three points today to close the gap.”
