‘Super’ John McGinn watched the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-finals draw with interest yesterday but he is not thinking about facing Inverness Caledonian Thistle as he knows that Hibs still have a major obstacle to overcome first.
Sunday’s dramatic fifth round tie against Hearts finished 2-2 at Tynecastle, after Hibs produced a sensational fightback from two goals down and the replay will take place on Tuesday 16 February at Easter Road.
A superb Jason Cummings looping header with 12 minutes remaining was followed by Paul Hanlon’s injury-time equaliser sparking wild celebrations from the fans in the Roseburn stand.
McGinn has become a fans’ favourite since his summer move and now has his own song which was sung with gusto throughout the game.
Speaking to Hibs TV, the midfielder said: “We know that we have got a replay to look forward to now, and that’s all we are thinking about at the moment.
“The Hearts’ game will be difficult and I’m thinking high tempo just like the last one and that’s something we will be prepared for and hopefully we can take out second half performance into next week
“At half time he (Alan Stubbs) said that it was important that we get the next goal and put the pressure on Hearts a wee bit more and we managed to get it a bit later than we would have liked. we have a never say die attitude in the dressing room and thankfully we got the goal in the last minute.
“It was brilliant, a great atmosphere and something I thrived under. Every footballer wants to play in the big games and thankfully I had the opportunity t play in the Edinburgh derby on Sunday.
“As things stand right now, Hearts are the third best team in the country and for us to come from two goals behind against them was massive. It has given everyone at the club a massive boost but we are just taking each game as it comes.
“If we manage to get through that, then Inverness is a tough tie.
” First and foremost we’ve got to get by Hearts again, and hopefully we can do that.”
