Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the Cowgate area which happened on Dyers Close at around 1.40am on Saturday morning.
A 23-year-old man was walking along Merchant Street into Dyers Close when, at the bottom of the lane, he was approached by two men.
He was then assaulted and threatened, and his mobile phone and beanie hat were stolen.
The suspects were last seen heading up Dyers Close towards Merchant Street.
The 23-year-old did not require medical treatment.
The first suspect is described as white, 5ft 11inches tall, aged 30-40, with a slim/medium build. He is described as having an unkempt appearance and no facial hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and dark trousers.
The second suspect is described as white, 5ft 10inches tall, aged 30-40. He was clean-shaven, and wearing a black hoodie and dark trousers.
Detective Inspector John Kavanagh of Corstorphine CID said: “This was a shocking attack on a young man as he made his way home from work, and we’re appealing for the public’s help to trace the suspects.
“We’re urging anyone who saw these two men in the area around this time, or who recognises their descriptions, to come forward.”
