In the first talk of the evening Julia Barton shares the results of her beach litter findings, recorded within 18 littoral zones in Ross-shire over the past 18 months. At least one million seabirds and one hundred thousand sharks, turtles, dolphins and whales die from eating plastic every year. Julia explains how she wants to use contemporary art to highlight ways in which we can change our behaviour to reduce this environmental degradation and the loss of marine life. The second speaker is Susan Brown, who will talk on Fostering Vandalism of the Earth? Or Stewardship? Susan hopes to promote initial thinking about what ‘education for sustainability’ is, why it is important to engage with this question, and how people are working towards integrating sustainability into curricula. 7-10pm, The Counting House, West Nicolson Street.
