Edinburgh residents have the chance to be part of Scottish history, by winning a Golden Ticket for a VIP seat on the first passenger train to the Scottish Borders to mark the launch of the new Borders Railway.
The City of Edinburgh Council, in partnership with This is Edinburgh, has 30 pairs of Golden Tickets up for grabs through the thisisedinburgh.com website.
Offering a return journey from Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank on Saturday 5th September, the memorable day will include special events at both stations and a packed programme of onboard entertainment and surprises along the way.
To enter, residents must explain in 50 words or less why they and a friend or family member deserve a ticket to this historic event or they can nominate someone to win this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Borders Railway will open up a whole region on our doorstep to locals and visitors alike. City of Edinburgh Council Leader Andrew Burns said: “The return of a proper rail link between Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Borders is a historic occasion for Scotland, and this competition will give the lucky winners the opportunity to be part of it.
“We’re now counting down the days until the launch of the Borders Railway, which will play an important role in increasing connectivity to and from Edinburgh, providing a convenient route for visitors and commuters from both Midlothian and the Borders.”
The new Scottish Borders railway line will be the longest new domestic railway constructed in the UK for more than a century, encompassing 30 miles of new line. The official Royal opening ceremony will take place on Friday 4th September, with regular services commencing on Sunday 6th September.
