In Cahoots: Some Like It Hoots, St John’s (9 Victoria Street) 6:15pm, until 25 Aug, Free
Well then. It’s back. During my debut Fringe last year there were two or three acts that really stood out, including a duo whose slick sketches left a laugh-a-minute lasting impression, the audience in the palm of their hands. It was an energetic production, and one that was just, JUST missing that five-star kick.
Well then. They’re back. This time? Prepare to be knocked to the ground.
Paul G Raymond and Luke Manning return with ‘Some Like It Hoots’, another array of ingenious sketches, which are as utterly hilarious as they are cleverly written and delivered.
This pair has timing, tenacity and top t’entertainment value (that’s a show in-pun right there) and they’re not afraid to use it. I won’t give too much away, but the daring ‘North vs South’ sketch, the thought-provoking Jane Bond skit, the short but sweet ‘Disco’ bursts and ‘Office Truths’ were particularly brilliant scenarios, all of them conveyed with the confidence and comedic clout that only the very talented can transmit.
Last year the size of their venue was put into question, and it could be that the stifling St John’s (Venue 202) might also be a tad too small; having said this, they use the space well once again, with the audience interaction elements being a real boost to the show.
In Cahoots can be seen at a much more convenient time this year too, so you really don’t have an excuse not to see this pair. Some Like It Hoots? ALL should like it hoots. Uproarious.
