WEATHERSEAL COMMUNITY HEROES FUND ANNOUNCE EDINBURGH BENEFICIARY
Scotland’s biggest home energy company Weatherseal are delighted to announce that Pilton Equalities Project has been chosen to receive a grant from the company’s Community Heroes Fund.
Applications from projects in Edinburgh opened in November and there were a number of entries ranging from social clubs to boys brigades and school parent councils to libraries.
Pilton Equalities Project will receive £500 which will be used to develop a craft class as a way to promote social skills, increase confidence, reduce isolation and enable individuals to practice manual dexterity skills and improve mental welling being. Importantly, as isolation within the community is an issue the bursary will provide transport to individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend.
The project’s main aim is to enhance the quality of life for older and other vulnerable adults in North Edinburgh, by continuing to develop services that enable active community participation. This encourages independence and measurably reduces isolation.
They continually run lifelong learning classes as well as many other services including day-care clubs and other services for over 900 members in the North Edinburgh area.
Weatherseal has already gifted thousands of pounds including projects for the elderly, vulnerable, and young people. Other good causes have included supported mental health charities, children’s hospitals, specific children’s health support groups, and carers.
Weatherseal managing director Tony Reilly commented:-“We were bowled over by the response in Edinburgh and had some fantastic applications. Pilton Equalities Project was chosen as a worthy beneficiary due to the many services they offer to such a large, potentially vulnerable group. Unfortunately resources are very limited and we feel it’s important that additional funding is made available to such a good cause.”
Theodora Hidalgo, learning and training officer at Pilton Equalities Project added: -“This is a great opportunity to provide an activity requested by the local older people, especially as it will also enable us to provide transport which is vitally important to those less able.”
