Edinburgh managed to lose the first leg of the Inter-city 1872 Cup against Glasgow warriors on Boxing Day, in spite of dominating both possession and territory for three-quarters of the match.
A quick exchange of penalties put the teams level, before Duncan Weir pulled Glasgow three points clear with another. However, it was the home side which scored the first try from another short range effort by Dougie Fife. Laidlaw kicked the conversion to leave the half time score at 10-6.
More penalties in the second half took the score out to 16-15 to Edinburgh, but a try 12 minutes from time by Stuart Hogg meant that Glasgow go into the second leg four points up in the aggregate score, 20-16.

There was no club rugby to speak of this week apart from the odd Intra-club friendly, the scores of which, tend to go unreported outside of the relevant clubs.

Lowland League
Spartans end 2013 on a high with a 3-2 win against Whitehill Welfare to keep the pressure on at the top of their Lowland League Cup qualifying group.
Welfare took a first half lead through Sproule but Ally MacKinnon grabbed an equaliser in the 50th minute then took the lead five minutes later thanks to the prolific Keith McLeod who scored his 19th of the season and incredibly for the 11th game in a row.
A stunning goal from Willie Bremner made it 3-1 before Bruce scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.

Hull Stingrays took Edinburgh Capitals to the cleaners on Saturday night in Hull as the Capitals went down 7-1 to the Yorkshire side. It wasn’t looking too bad at the end of the first period at 1-0 to Hull, but five goals to one in the second sunk any chance the visitors had of ending their run of defeats.
Another in the third gave the home side a fairly comprehensive victory over the EIHL League’s bottom team.
And they didn’t fair too well on Sunday either, as Braehead Clan stuck another seven past the Edinburgh keeper to win 7-3. In spite of being 3-2 ahead at the end of the first period, the Capitals were unable to net any further goals and, indeed, lost one goal when on a Powerplay – extremely embarrassing, apparently – and another with 49 seconds left on the clock. So they’re still at the bottom.
