Best books list – CHAS Lunch today  – Movember – Jobs with The Marshmallow Lady – Edinburgh Leisure in South Queensferry

The Scottish Book Trust has compiled a list of its favourite books for the last 50 years. You are invited to help them compile the definitive top ten list by voting for your favourites on their website.

“We’re looking for the best Scottish novels of the last 50 years! Literary critic Stuart Kelly and the staff from Scottish Book Trust have compiled the shortlist below, using the following criteria: the novel must have been written in Scotland, or the author must have been born in Scotland or currently live in Scotland. To find out what Stuart and the SBT staffers thought of the books, click on the covers on our book list.

Now we need your help narrowing the list down to the 10 best books.  Once you have submitted your votes you will have the chance to enter a competition to win a weekend’s stay in Edinburgh, courtesy of Visit Scotland. Voting ends 22 November, and the top 10 titles will be announced during Book Week Scotland 2013 (25 November to 1 December).”

The CHAS lunch is on at Prestonfield today. Last year the fundraiser made over £36,000 for the children’s hospice charity.

It is cheering news then that the latest inspection by the Healthcare inspectorate found that Rachel House in Kinross was providing care which was either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.

If you men out there are raising funds by growing a moustache this Movember then you might be interested to know that there is a product sold at Penhaligons on the corner of George Street and Hanover Street which will help you keep things under control. Their moustache wax is £5 a tin and for every tin sold the company will donate £2 to the Movember fundraising effort.  You can also buy online.

And if you are taking part then send us your photos please! We would like to have an array of moustachioed Edinburgh males before the end of Movember……
