Edinburgh Airport wins another award! – Natural Neighbourhoods – STV launch new app – RSNO present Haunted House – Tonight at the Filmhouse
Edinburgh Airport is celebrating after being named ‘Airport of the Year’ (over six million passengers) at the Airport Operators Association Awards in London on Monday evening.
The award, voted by airlines, is the fifth high profile award for the airport this year after it was named ‘Scottish Airport of the Year’ in June and ‘Best European Airport (5-10m passengers)’ at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards.
The award was accepted by Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive, who attended the ceremony with Colin Murray, Head of Airside, and Sarah Gardiner, Head of Terminal Operations.
Gordon said: -“This award is a tremendous validation for Edinburgh Airport. The fact that it is voted for by airlines shows that our strategy is working. They’re at the core of all that we do.”
David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer, said: “We’ve worked hard with our airlines to better serve their needs and make sure our service is world class.
“We’re delighted that our airlines have voted us Airport of the Year. Edinburgh Airport is all about working together as a team to provide great customer service. We will continue to work hard to ensure we remain the airport of choice for the millions of people that travel through.”
This is the fifth major award for Edinburgh Airport this year. The airport was named ‘Best in Britain’, and one of the top three in Europe, for passenger satisfaction at the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards and ‘Best European Airport (5-10m passengers)’ at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards.
Edinburgh Airport has just announced several new routes for 2014, including the first direct service to Chicago which will launch in May 2014. In addition, the £25m terminal expansion will begin in mid-October which will offer passengers a new state-of-the-art new security facility and retail space.

STV Local was disbanded earlier this year and now STV has launched brand new digital services providing all the latest news, events, offers, pictures and videos for consumers in Edinburgh and other main cities in Scotland.
The new services – STV Glasgow, STV Edinburgh, STV Aberdeen and STV Dundee – are available as apps, free to download and use on iOS and Android devices, and accompanied by desktop and mobile sites.
Key features include a constantly updated feed of everything happening in the city, including breaking news, the latest on social media, travel, weather and upcoming events.
The best places to eat are listed along with daily offers, reviews from real customers, simple table booking and even directions to get there.
STV say that by having trailers, reviews and show times for all the latest movies, and What’s On listings for all major venues, it will mean consumers never have to miss anything in their city again.
By saving ideas for places to eat and things to do in a ‘Favourites’ section, users can easily personalise the app to ensure they always have the most relevant and up-to-date information right at their fingertips.
The launch marks the next generation of STV’s digital services, and reinforces its commitment to serving local audiences across Scotland. STV currently broadcast News at Six in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, with a bulletin for the Dundee and Tayside area, and will launch two new city TV channels for Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2014.
David Milne, head of digital publishing at STV, said:- “The new city services further strengthen STV’s portfolio of digital offerings for online consumers. We have developed a fun, engaging and relevant platform to help people in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee get the most out of their city, covering everything from breaking news and top events to daily deals and reviews.
“The concept behind these new services is “your city in your hand” and we hope the apps will inspire with great ideas for going out, eating and exploring Scotland’s four biggest cities, with information and offers always kept up to date by STV’s team of dedicated journalists.”
