After six Fringe sell out solo shows, poet Luke Wright presents his seventh batch of roaringly romping verses for your delectation.

Ever seen a lion? In the wild? In England? Last year in Clacton some campers said they did. They didn’t of course; lions aren’t native to north east Essex. But their not-sighting triggered something in Luke’s brain. Now he too is seeing the things others don’t. His new Satirical Verses are set in a world where posh plumbers, paunchy ex-rock stars and Lovejoy roam freely.

Luke Wright is a poet, performer and festival curator. Perhaps best known to a wider audience for his witty and empathetic contributions as poet-in-residence to BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live, he has become widely acknowledged as a trailblazer for performance and written poetry. He is a regular contributor to radio, TV and newspapers and has written poetry for films and television, including the ground-breaking Channel 4 documentary The Seven Ages of Love. His new book Mondeo Man was published earlier this year. He has taken his shows to Europe, Australia and China (twice). He might just be the hardest working man in poetry.

Luke is also host and programmer of the Latitude Festival’s Poetry Arena, one of the largest poetry events in Europe. He has programmed many other poetry festivals and events including the Edinburgh Fringe’s first ever, and to date only, dedicated poetry venue.

Luke Wright: Essex Lion has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator, East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
