Vacant site set to become new retirement development
Plans for a high quality retirement development in Liberton Road, Edinburgh have been given the green light by The City of Edinburgh Council earlier this month.
The former petrol station site on Liberton Road, which has lain vacant for several years, is now on track to be developed by specialist retirement housing developer McCarthy & Stone into 48 private retirement apartments, specifically designed for people over the age of 60.
The contemporary development aims to rejuvenate the vacant site, complementing the neighbouring residential area and providing much needed accommodation for local people of retirement age.
In addition to attractive landscaped gardens surrounding the building, there will be shared living spaces including a lounge and guest accommodation for residents and their visitors to enjoy.
Delighted with the planning approval, Steve Wiseman, Managing Director for McCarthy & Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd in Scotland, commented:- “We believe this development will bring a number of benefits to the local community, including regenerating a site which has lain derelict for a number of years and bringing it into residential use.”
“We would like to thank the local community for helping us shape and support our proposal and we look forward to being able to start work on site in the coming months.”
A community consultation carried out during the planning phase of the development showed strong support for the proposal with over 80 per cent of respondents rating it as positive.
Development of the site will begin later this year and every effort will be taken to ensure minimal disruption to the community while works are taking place.
