The Edinburgh Interfaith Association and Women’s Aid are holding an interfaith creative project at St John’s Church on Saturday 9 March 2013:-
Fiona Buchanan. Information Administration Worker

Fiona has been the Information Administration Worker at Scottish Women’s Aid since August 2009, and since 2010 has been working on the faith strand of our ‘together we can stop it’ campaign. She has also worked with Girlguiding UK and She is the Scottish National Coordinator of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women,.  Fiona is an organist and choir director, and loves seeing people building their confidence through music.

To mark International Women’s Day 2013, the Edinburgh Interfaith Association and Scottish Women’s Aid are collaborating on an interfaith creative project, which aims to enable women to celebrate their achievements in an accessible, fun and imaginative way. Through a celebratory event on the 9 March, our goal is to provide a safe space where you can express your passions and concerns through creative exploration, and be part of a global network of projects and events that aim to inspire women and celebrate their successes. Come along to St. John’s Church, Princes Street, Edinburgh at 1pm on Saturday March 9th

The Arts connect us all – anywhere, anytime

The Global IWD Women’s Arts Initiative celebrates the collective creative ability of women. The initiative began in 2011 as a way of marking the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, with the result being the ’100 Women, 100 Artworks’ and ’100 Women, 100 Stories’ project.

This remarkable collection of art work (paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, drawings, sketches, collages) and stories was created by diverse women from around the world to inspire, challenge, entertain and provoke thought from a gender angle. The stories are of celebration, hurt, triumph, shock, humour, anger, remembrance and question – but are ultimately an illustration of the artistic grace of women.

This initiative has now been extended and we hope to upload our creative output from the interfaith “Celebrating creativity” event to the Global IWD Women’s Arts Initiative website, and be part of a global web of rich and diverse local activity that connects women throughout the world.

So come along and celebrate – make a difference, explore your passions, concerns and hope for the future! Help to make every day International Women’s Day. Do your bit to celebrate but also to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

The Scottish Storytelling Centre are running a series of events throughout the day on Friday 8 March 2013 to mark International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. In celebration we decided nothing could be more perfect than a good Claire McNicol old Tea Dance Stomp in the evening after a series of free workshops on storytelling, singing and creative writing on Friday 8 March!
