It was a busy Friday  for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service last night. Three separate incidents in separate areas of the city resulted in some casualties being given first aid at the scene and others being taken to hospital for check-ups.

Three people had to be taken to hospital after a flat fire in Gilmore Place, Edinburgh, just before 9.30pm.

Four fire appliances were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised reporting a fire and people still within the two storey residential building.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hose reel to tackle the fire in the kitchen of a ground floor flat. There was considerable smoke at the scene and three adults, a 65-year-old woman from one flat and a 66-year-old man and 59-year-old woman from a second flat, suffered smoke inhalation.

All three were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for precautionary checks. Although the fire was extinguished quickly firefighters were on site until just before 11pm, venting smoke from the fire, cutting away and clearing fire damage to the affected property.

A 65-year-old woman suffered burns to her hand after a fire in her kitchen.

Firefighters were called to Barn Park Crescent in the Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh just after 9pm.

A grill pan had caught fire in the first floor flat. The blaze was out when crews arrived but the woman living in the property had suffered burns to her hand. Firefighters administered first aid at the scene.

A 36-year-old woman and two-year-old girl had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a pan of food caught fire at a flat .

Firefighters were called to reports of a smoke alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a ground floor flat on Portobello Road shortly before 9pm.

Three fire appliances were mobilised to the four storey building and discovered the two casualties on arrival. They were treated at the scene by ambulance crews after suffering smoke inhalation.

The pan of food had been extinguished prior to firefighters reaching the scene. The property was vented for smoke by two crew in breathing apparatus.
