The Portobello Park Private Bill Consultation runs until the end of January. This is one of the solutions put forward by the council to providing a new school for the area within the green space of Portobello Park. The previous council proposal to proceed to build the school there was thwarted by an application by a campaign group to the Court of Session which decided they did not have the right to do so.

There is still time to participate in the consultation on the proposals to take a Private Bill to the Scottish Parliament to build the new Portobello High School on Portobello Park.

Consultation runs until 31 January 2013. Full information, including an online questionnaire can be found at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/newportobelloschool

Next week, the first of two public meetings to debate the issue will take place in Portobello Town Hall. Representatives from the local groups who support and oppose the proposals, PFANS and PPAG have been invited to join Council Officers at the top table to put forward their views and there will be a question and answers session for local people to ask questions and raise issues.

Both public meetings run from 7pm to 9pm – the first is in Portobello Town Hall on 9 January and the second in Meadowbank Sports Centre (Hall 2) on 17 January
