A group of students and staff from Edinburgh College have been sporting some fantastic facial fuzz to raise money for the Movember campaign, which saw over £2,000 raised for the charity.

Almost 30 students and staff across all of the campuses abandoned their razors for the month of fundraising activities to promote awareness of men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

To mark the end of the event and cash collected, a Man of Movember competition was held, which saw each participant go before a panel to assess their moustache style and grooming efforts.

In the end, two winning moustaches stood out and lecturers Colin Briggs and Alastair Tams took the joint title of Man of Movember 2012 and won a Movember trophy, a bottle of shaving foam and a razor.

Edinburgh College lecturer and Man of Movember, Alastair Tams, said: “Movember is a brilliant cause and I’m really proud to be given the joint title of Man of Movember.”

Alastair added: – “My motivation for taking part in Movember was related to my dad who has just beaten Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but now has to take on non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.”

Fellow Man of Movember Colin Briggs was awarded the title because of his unique ‘trucker’ look moustache, and chose to take part in Movember in order to help change the face of men’s health.

Since the Man of Movember 2012 competition, funds have continued to pour in and the final total raised by Edinburgh College is £2978.86.
