Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following an indecent exposure in Midlothian.

The incident happened sometime between 6.20pm and 7pm yesterday in Penicuik.

A 17-year-old girl alighted a bus from Edinburgh and was walking through an underpass walkway between Edinburgh Road and Beeslack High School when a man walked past her.

The man then stopped and exposed himself to the teenager before making off.

A similar incident in the area was reported to police on Monday 28th May and officers are currently investigating whether these crimes are linked.

Anyone who can assist with their enquiries is asked to come forward.

The suspect is described as being in his thirties, olive-skinned, 5ft 6ins tall with a large build and broad shoulders. He was wearing a black beanie hat with a grey strip around it, a three-quarter length black jacket, grey combat-style trousers and black shoes.

A police spokesman said: “This was a very distressing ordeal for the young woman and we are carrying out local enquiries to trace the male responsible.

“Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area, which is just off the A701, is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, if anyone recognises the description of the suspect and can help police identify him is also asked to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
