Fire casualties – Rubbish still to be cleared in some areas – Schools Open Day – North Edinburgh News AGM – JK Rowling
There were two fires in yesterday each of which claimed the life of the occupant. The first was in Powderhall yesterday morning and the second occurred twelve hours later in Dundee Terrace.
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service also reported a third fire last night in Dryden Street which resulted in two women being taken to hospital with burns. The fire was reported to the fire service just after 10.30 yesterday evening and 20 firefighters attended a third floor flat at number 2 Dryden Street. The firefighters used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets. LBFRS said this morning that investigations into the fire which caused extensive damage are ongoing. The BBC also report that a baby was injured in this fire and is being treated in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Just to remind you that today is Schools Open Day. This is a first for the council. All primary schools are open today for parents with pre-school age children to have a look around and learn more about their catchment school. Almost every Primary School in Edinburgh is welcoming parents and their children to come and visit between 10am and 3pm.
