Whether you think of yourself as the next Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton or David Coulthard, the Sick Kids Friends Foundation urges you to take the wheel to lap up some cash at Raceland’s 24-hour Diamond Endurance Race this weekend.
Karting enthusiasts Raceland will host the 750-mile jaunt at its international-sized outdoor racing circuit, in East Lothian, to raise money for the charity. Teams of five are encouraged to enrol and will experience the brand new Sodie 270cc karts which incorporate easy-to-operate technology and respond well to the track. The relay style fundraiser will only allow teams to stop to change driver, refuel or carry out a quick mid-race service.
Raceland will match charity sponsorship up to £50 per team and have organised a host of amazing prizes for top fundraisers. Wannabe racers will be in with a chance of winning a test drive in one of five top-of-the-range motors including an Aston Martin, a Ferrari and a Jaguar.
This year’s event will take place on 5-6 May 2012 for an entry price of £1875 per team (£375 per person) and drivers must be 16-years-old and over. Hire of the kart and race wear are included in the price.
Owner Tom Cameron is delighted to be holding the fifth event of its kind at Raceland.
He said: “I am thrilled to be holding the Diamond Endurance Race. This will be the fifth time we have organised a racing fundraiser and they have been very successful in the past. The Sick Kids Friends Foundation is a charity close to my heart. As a father of two and an ex-patient myself, I hold SKFF in the highest regard and look forward to doing whatever I can to raise as much money as possible.
“Those with an affiliation to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, including patients, out patients, siblings and carers of the brave children battling illness, are invited along once a month to enjoy free karting.”

Raceland began a campaign to raise money for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation back in 1997 and have held further fundraisers over the past few years.
