Bus Lane enquiry – Tour de France – St James’ Sports Night – New Lord Provost – Festival of Museums

***

The new clampdown on those infringing the rules on bus lanes has led to many drivers being prosecuted as a result. The BBC now report that there is to be an urgent investigation into the camera system at the instigation of the council’s new Transport convener who will be appointed next Thursday, Councillor Lesley Hinds. We would like to know where the BBC got their photo of a bus lane. It is clearly old stock…it is so green!  The council also have a statement here.

Edinburgh may host the Tour de France – or at least the prologue stage – in 2017 according to the Press Association.

Councillor Maureen Child told us about an event which takes place tonight:-

“The 5th Annual St James’ Sports Night is on tonight in their Church Hall, Rosefield Place, Portobello (off Brighton Place. Map http://www.stjamesparishchurch.org.uk) There’s a “Question of Sport”, hosted by BBC Football Commentator Paul Mitchell. The guests split into two teams, and try to outwit each other answering questions that are displayed on the big screen. The rounds include ‘what happened next’, the picture round, home & away and the popular ‘spot the connection’ round. Lots of audience participation. After the Question of Sport, there’s a short break and the traditional football fare of pies and bovril on sale. Then there’s a Football Forum with Q &A and great stories from the guests. Both last year’s captains wanted a rematch so former Hearts player Allan Preston goes head to head with former Hibs player Steve Cowan. Tickets £5. Send an email to emailbox@stjamesparishchurch.org.uk or pay at the door. Children (suitable for age 10+) are £1, and must be accompanied by an adult.”

New Provost, Donald Wilson, was installed yesterday and wore the chain of office for the first time. The official car was waiting outside the City Chambers, but he said to The Reporter that he had not yet been in it.

Scotland’s museums and galleries hold an eclectic mix of inspirational cultural events from Aberdeen to Ayrshire and Dundee to Skye and Stirling, and this year there are almost 90 events confirmed.

From 18-20 May, Festival of Museums will celebrate Scotland’s wealth of culture with exciting and innovative day and night events in museums and galleries throughout the country. Many of the workshops, talks, concerts and exhibitions are FREE. The Festival, organised by Museums Galleries Scotland, coincides with other Europe-wide celebrations of the many eclectic cultural experiences offered to visitors by museums and galleries, including Museums at Night.

There are loads of events in Edinburgh, which I’ve listed in a document which is attached, and you can have a look at all the events at www.festivalofmuseums.com
