Exhibition: My city my life: Gdansk and Edinburgh by day and by night.
Michal has exhibited in Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia, Zelow, Paris and Inverness. His current exhibition is on display in Edinburgh Central Library until 31st March 2011.

Michal Pocwiardowski was born in 1969 in Gdansk (Poland). He has worked as a graphic designer, photographer and photo reporter for various daily and weekly newspapers in Gdansk. Since 2006 he has lived in Edinburgh, working for an art website for the Polish and Scottish art community. He has also had some pictures published in Scottish Field Magazine.

The Petal Garden of King Shubash with Peter Chand and Shonaleigh is on at The Scottish Storytelling Centre at 7.00pm. A magical tale of wit, deceit, love, and the many faces we all wear. The mighty King Shubash values loyalty more than anything else in his kingdom. However he fears a woman’s wisdom even more. Historic Scotland have some half-price tickets to give away. 5,000 half-price tickets are available for Scotland’s top heritage attraction, Edinburgh Castle.

The free and half-price tickets will be available to apply for online.  A special web page www.ticketgiveaway.co.uk has being set up to allow prospective visitors to register for a voucher.  After registering they will be sent an email with a voucher to present on arrival at their chosen attraction.  Proof of ID will be required to redeem the voucher.

Having a free ticket means that on their day out at one of the participating attractions, a family of two adults and three children can save up to £26.60 (the normal cost for the party at Urquhart Castle).  And the half-price entry at Edinburgh Castle brings the normal admission cost of £52.60 for two adults and three children down to just £26.30.

At The Scottish Storytelling Centre at 2.00pm Landscape and Identity in Storytelling a practical workshop looking at story-collecting in the community, and the importance of being a guardian of these tales. Peter Chand and Shonaleigh cover various collecting skills, duty of care, telling stories from other cultures, and offer the chance to work on a story yourselves. Shonaleigh and Peter have been collecting and translating stories from friends and family for many years now, and have a vast experience of working on many community projects all over Britain. Some of that experience will be shared in this half-day workshop. More details here.

At The Filmhouse to mark the centenary of International Women’s Day, they are showing No Woman, No Cry. For hundreds of thousands of women each year, pregnancy is a death sentence: every minute another woman dies as a result. But shockingly nearly all maternal deaths and disabilities could be prevented. In her gripping directorial debut, Christy Turlington Burns shares the powerful stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world.The film puts audiences in the footsteps of a Maasai woman in labor who must walk five miles to a clinic with no electricity, a young pregnant woman in the slums of Bangladesh too ashamed to seek out care, a pregnant OB in Guatemala who helps women who have suffered from botched illegal abortions, and a midwife in central Florida who treats uninsured women who are denied appointments elsewhere. It presents the powerful message that every mother counts, and a challenge to raise awareness of these forgotten women.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with leading experts and campaigners on maternal health asking the question What can we do to make a difference?”

Stills hosts Lyre Productions present their new feature, THE SPACE BETWEEN, an Edinburgh love story following two strangers brought together by a city and given the chance to redeem their lives.
