Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for information following a robbery at a shop in Edinburgh last night .
At 10.10pm, a group of five or six men entered Sandy’s Store on Granton Mains Avenue as two employees were locking up.
Both members of staff were taken to the back of the shop and held there while the rest of the group searched the shop for money. While searching, they activated an alarm and subsequently ran off in the direction of West Pilton Terrace with a four-figure sum of money.
The suspects are described as being white, and were wearing hoods or balaclavas to cover their faces, and gloves.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish if there is any CCTV in the area, which may assist the investigation.
A police spokesperson said: ‘This has been a terrible experience for the shop staff who, although uninjured, have been left understandably shaken as a result.
‘We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who may have noticed a group of men acting suspiciously, to contact police.’
Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers, in confidence and complete anonymity, on 0800 555 111.
