Edinburgh wave energy company Aquamarine Power’s scheme for the professional development of its engineers has been awarded accreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). The IMechE is licensed by the Engineering Council to accredit professional development schemes as a monitored way of recording initial professional development, leading towards Chartered Engineers (CEng) or Incorporated Engineers (IEng) registration.
The accreditation is for a three year period. This is the maximum which can be awarded by the IMechE, demonstrating the IMechE’s confidence in Aquamarine Power’s professional development scheme.
The IMechE’s Professional Development Standards Committee noted that Aquamarine Power’s scheme was “well documented, supported at senior level and highly structured.”
The panel also noted that the mentors they interviewed were “enthusiastic and committed to delivering on the objectives of the Scheme”, and that developing engineers were of a “high calibre”.

The IMechE accredits against output standards as defined by UK-SPEC (UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence).
