Get your tree delivered by bike
Callum Ross, founder of the Cycling Gardeners, and his old friend James Nisbet, an East Lothian farmer, collaborated three years ago to create Tollcorss Tree Works operating from the Cycling Gardeners yard.
James is passionate about trees and Christmas and knew he could get the best premium trees in Scotland from his family connections in Perthshire. Callum wanted to use his city centre yard during the downseason for his gardening company. The two old friends chatted, and the partnership was born. Callum runs the shop, and James manages the stock.
Callum said: “We aim to create a friendly pop-up Xmas shop that spreads happiness and brings joy with a reputation for quality trees and a friendly, reliable service for the local community.”

South Morningside School petition
A petition has been set up on the council website to demand safer streets around South Morningside Primary School. If you wish to support it then click here to go to the signing page.
Ian Murray, the local MP is supporting the petition. He said: “Parents have started a petition on improving road safety in the area after recent traffic incidents involving pupils from the school.”
The petition which is open until February 2025 reads as follows:
The petitioner urgently requests that the Council implement immediate road safety measures around the school to protect children from traffic-related risks. Despite a 20 mph limit, hazards like inadequate signage, double parking, and bypass traffic create unsafe conditions daily for over 500 students. The petitioner calls for the Council to take the following actions: Enhanced Road Safety Features: Install continental-style crossings and speed bumps on Morningside Drive, Craiglea Drive, and Greenbank Drive, alongside prominent “School Zone” signage to ensure drivers remain alert and reduce speeds. Increased Enforcement During Peak Times: Position a crossing guard or community warden at critical junctions during drop-off and pick-up hours to deter dangerous driving and manage high traffic volumes safely. Improved School Zone Visibility: Add visible “School Zone” signs with flashing lights and clear road markings, similar to those used successfully at other area schools, to clearly designate the area as a child safety zone. Further recommended actions include establishing no-parking zones, installing speed-activated signs, and creating permanent barriers for safe drop-off zones. Over the long term, the petitioner suggests a redesign of street layouts and automated enforcement measures to sustain a safer environment for children. These measures are intended to reduce traffic dangers around the school and create safer, more accessible routes for all students.
