Portobello Swim Centre remains closed on Monday after shutting its doors to swimmers last week.
A sign outside the front door says it has closed “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
Edinburgh Leisure has confirmed that the problem is the heating system has failed, meaning there is no heating in the building or to heat the pool. The Facilities team is working on fixing the problem.
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Leisure said: “Portobello Swim Centre will remain closed until further notice, and all activities and operations are suspended. A further update will be provided on 7 September.”

The 125 year-old pool is to be upgraded once the leisure trust decide what works to do. The building requires significant repair and modernisation in order to protect its heritage and “improve the customer experience”.
The next phase of the project has just been announced and it will focus on developing a design that reflects what customers said matters most during the consultation conducted earlier this year.
This includes considering:
- How changing facilities can be upgraded to better meet customer needs
- Improvements to layout, cleanliness, accessibility and family provision
- The importance of retaining the building’s unique character, including its natural light and sea views
