Scottie Scheffler will not be working on any specific aspect of his game during the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club which starts on Thursday.
The 30-year-old American will, however, be taking special note of the speed of the greens as this is links golf, something the world No 1 does not play regularly.
He is interested in how the ball runs and this is one of the reasons why he has come over a week before The Open at Birkdale.
Getting over jet-lag is another.
He is, he conceded, getting older. For the record, he turned 30 on June 21 and the Highland Park High School alumni said: “Sometimes you feel old, sometimes you feel young.”
Scheffler, who tees off at 13.43 in round one, believes the par-70 course (35 out, 35 in) is more difficult than it was.
Weather, of course, will play a part this week and also next at Birkdale and, of his season so far, Scheffler, asked to assess his season so far, said: “I have been really close to winning some things.”
Margins in golf, he added, were really small.”
He will have what he called a “relaxed” week in and around North Berwick.
Another American here is five-time Major winner, Brooks Koepke, his first appearance in the Scottish Open for a number of years.
Currently he is 115th in the world rankings (he tees off at 7.44am on Thursday) and believes the East Lothian course is in a good shape for the star-studded event and he said: “I am focused on myself, doing the best job I can. Playing good golf is the most important thing to me.”
