Hibs legend John Brownlie is back in football.
The 74-year-old former right-back in the Turnbull’s Tornadoes side that won the League Cup in 1972 and beat Hearts seven-nil at Tynecastle a few weeks later is a member of the Hibernian FC Hall of Fame.
Earlier today Monday 20 July 2026 Lowland League side Berwick Rangers announced that Brownlie has been appointed as the club’s new Head of Tactical & Opposition Scouting.
Brownlie is no stranger to MKM Shielfield Park, having played for the ‘Gers in the 1985/6 season, and managing the club briefly in 2019.
In a distinguished playing career, he made over 200 appearances for Hibs, played 124 times for Newcastle United, and earned 7 Scotland caps.
His managerial credentials include Cowdenbeath, East Stirlingshire and Arbroath.
In his new role, he will support Kevin Haynes and his coaching staff with match preparation, as the squad prepares tactically for games in the Lowland League East, KDM Evolution Trophy, Scottish Cup and a host of other competitions.
Upon his appointment, he said, “It’s great to be back at Berwick Rangers, as I’ve felt a strong connection to the club since my playing days. I’m excited for this new role, and to start helping Kevin and the rest of the team.”
