Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze which took hold in a block of flats in Muirhouse.
The roof at the property on Ferry Gait Place in the Muirhouse area of Edinburgh has entirely caved in due to the ongoing fire.
Images at the scene show an enormous emergency response, with flames rising from the building’s empty shell. Billows of smoke are visible from miles around the area.
Four adults and one child were evacuated from the building by firefighters and all five are being monitoring by ambulance teams.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are currently in attendance at a building fire involving the roof structure of a four-storey block of flats on Ferry Gait Place in Edinburgh.
“Six fire appliances and a high reach vehicle are on scene and firefighting remains ongoing.
“Firefighters removed four adults and one child were removed from one property, who are being monitored by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“All other properties within the building have been evacuated and other neighbouring and adjacent properties advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.07 to attend a building fire at Ferry Gait, Edinburgh.
“Two ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 10.10am on Thursday, 10 September, 2026, police received a report of a building fire on Ferry Gait, Edinburgh.
“We are assisting our SFRS colleagues as they deal with the incident.”
