Two Hearts players and one from Hibs are included in Scotland’s World Cup squad for games in Canada, Mexico and the United States between June 11 and July 19.
The Tynecastle club’s evergreen goalkeeper, Craig Gordon, who is 43, is one of three named and team-mate, Lawrence Shankland, is one of four forwards picked by manager, Steve Clarke.
Grant Hanley is Hibs only representative and the defender has been a regular for the national team in recent times.
Former Hearts players, 23-year-old full-back, Aaron Hickey (Brentford), who has 19 caps, and Aberdeen-born, John Souttar, now 29, a central defender, a man with 22 caps, are also named along with ex-Hibs midfielder, John McGinn who is now skipper of English Premiership side, Aston Villa. The 31-year-old has 85 caps.
The Scots face Haiti on Sunday, June 14 in Boston (kick-off 2am UK time), Morocco five days later also in Boston (kick-off 11pm UK time), and complete their group by squaring-up to Brazil on Wednesday, June 24 in Miami (11pm UK time).
All games are in Group C and Clarke’s men play Curacao at Hampden on May 30 in a friendly and their final warm-up game is against Bolivia in New Jersey on June 6.
Gordon and the two other goalkeepers picked have made only 15 appearances in first team fixtures this season and Clarke conceded that it is always difficult when you have got goalkeepers who are not playing regular football.
But he said: “As long as goalkeepers are working to their maximum in training you feel that they can come in and play.
“Craig is slightly different in that he picked up an injury.”
Gordon, who has 83 caps, has assured the manager that he is fit and he has been monitored. There have been good reports on his progress from the coaching staff at Tynecastle.”
Shankland, now aged 30, has made 18 appearances for Scotland scoring four goals including the second Scottish goal in the sensational 4-2 qualifying win against Denmark at Hampden in November.
He has been in good form for Hearts, scoring 16 goals in the league campaign, the same as Benjamin Nygren (Celtic) and one behind Zambian-born striker, Tawanda Maswanhise.
Defender Hanley, now 34, has 66 caps and has scored two goals for the national side and has bags of experience. Indeed, his first cap came in a 3-1 win over Wales in May 2011 in the Carling Nations Cup.
His first international goal also came against Wales when he headed the opener in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat at Hampden in March 2013.
