Grant Hanley made history last night by becoming the first Hibs player to start a World Cup game for Scotland in more than 50-years.
The last time was in 1974 when John Blackley played against Zaire in West Germany.
Hanley was a rock at the heart of the Scotland defence that kept a clean sheet against Haite at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough.
And he played a major part in the only goal of the game which was scored by former Hibs midfielder ‘Super’ John McGinn.
Haite piled the pressure on in an effort to equalise but Hanley and Callum Hendry stood firm and defended several corners and free-kicks.
Earlier Morocco and Brazil drew 1-1 in New Jersey and that result means Scotland top the group with three points going into the second fixture against Morocco at the same venue next Friday.
The squad then travel to Miami to face Brazil on June 24 looking to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time.
After the final whistle Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney posted a video online.
He said “Scotland, you have done us proud” and left a hoarse-sounding yet happy message for the team.
“Steve Clarke, Andy Robertson and the team have done us proud,” he said.
“There’s not a lovelier feeling than being the first First Minister of Scotland to see Scotland win a game in the World Cup.”
