Craig Gordon said he was really pleased with the save in the dying seconds of their 1-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park which has garnered national media coverage.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s visit of St Mirren (19.45) the 43-year-old said: “It is all about recovery now. I only had 45 minutes so I should be OK for that one and we need to prepare properly now.”

Reflecting on the Dundee game, Gordon revealed that when he arrived at Dens Park he did not expect to play a big part in the game.

That, of course, changed just before half-time when German hot-stop, Alexander Schwolow, was shown a red card for a tackle just outside the Hearts’ penalty box.

Gordon told Hearts TV: “I made a save from the free-kick, which is really difficult coming on in that situation. There was a lot of think about, full concentration. It was important to keep that one out and it was nice to get back out there as I have not played for a while. I had a little warm-up at half-time just to get me ready for the second-half.”

Gordon added: “We were delighted to get the three points, it was a big win, it was a clearly difficult second-half as they were going to put balls into the box with us down to ten men, but everybody rose to the occasion.

“They shoved their bodies in front of everything to keep a clean sheet.”

On his time spent on the sidelines, the 43-year-old said: “Only one can play and you have to be ready, you just never know. We had a practice match in midweek and I felt I did well and it was about taking that form into the game when I got that opportunity.”
