Kye Thomson continued his early season form but Edinburgh Monarchs skidded to a 57-33 defeat in the BSN Series at Berwick on Saturday and must pick themselves up for Sunday’s joust at Glasgow Tigers in the same competition (3pm).
The heavy defeat in the Borders means Monarchs lost the bonus by a margin of 87-93 despite Thomson winning four races and team manager Alex Harkess admitted “It was a very disappointing result.”
He conceded that at Berwick you have got to make the start and you’ve got to be competitive at the first and second bend an he added: “We only had one rider that we could depend on, and even he ran out of steam eventually. It’s a hard track to do seven rides on. Kye did very very well but there wasn’t enough back-up.”
The loss of the bonus was directly traceable to Dan Thompson’s absence and the failure to secure a suitable guest. Rider replacement rides for Dan secured just three points.
With two heats to go Monarchs were level on aggregate but Bandits guest reserve Sam Hagon won Heat 14 from Paco Castagna and a 5-1 in the final race would have done the trick.
Thomson (pictured) could not produce again.
Thompson returns at Glasgow and a victory there would win the section for Monarchs.
