A man has been pronounced dead following a crash outside Edinburgh’s Gyle Shopping Centre.
Images show Gyle Avenue, which leads directly to the shopping centre and its car parks, taped off as police and paramedics attended the area.
Only one vehicle was involved with emergency services being called to the scene at around 11:10am this morning, where they still remain now.
A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other casualties have been reported.
The car involved was a white Volkswagen that bears the livery of a courtesy car provided by AVW Autocentre in the south east of the city.
Images show the vehicle at a stop by a lamppost with the bonnet severely damaged and its license plate hanging off.
Several bus routes were affected, including the 12, 18, 21, 22, 36 and 71 routes, according to Lothian Buses, although routes are no longer subject to diversions.
A Police Scotland spokesperson today said: “Around 11.10am on Monday, 16 February, 2026, we received a report of a crash involving one vehicle on Gyle Avenue, Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and the driver, a 58-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured..
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We received a call at 11:06 to attend a road traffic collision on Gyle Avenue, Edinburgh.
“We dispatched an ambulance, a critical care paramedic (CCP), and a special operations response team (SORT) to the scene.”
